Dr. Vagelis (Evangelos) Plevris is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering , Qatar University , where he has been a faculty member since January 2021. Before moving to Qatar, he held positions as Associate Professor and Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) in Norway. Earlier in his academic career, he taught and conducted research at institutions in Greece, including the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where he obtained his PhD.
His research focuses on computational structural engineering, combining numerical simulation, structural optimization, and artificial intelligence to better understand, analyze, and design engineering structures. His interests include finite element analysis, earthquake engineering, structural reliability and uncertainty, machine learning, and intelligent computational methods for engineering applications.
Alongside his teaching and research, he is actively involved in academic publishing and the international research community. He serves as Specialty Chief Editor of Structural Engineering and Design in Frontiers in Built Environment , and holds editorial roles in several international journals. He also supervises graduate research and participates in international scientific collaborations.
