Privacy & Cookies
What information is collected when you visit this website, and the choices you have.
This is the personal academic website of Vagelis Plevris, Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Qatar University. The website has no user accounts, contact forms or newsletters, and does not sell or share visitor data for advertising.
Essential cookies and server logs
To work securely, the website sets a session cookie (vagelis-plevris-session)
and a security token cookie (XSRF-TOKEN). They are strictly necessary for the website
to function, are not used for tracking or advertising, and are therefore set without asking for
consent. Both expire after 120 minutes without a visit.
The session is stored on the website's server together with your IP address and browser type, and is deleted after it expires. As on most websites, the hosting provider's web servers also record technical information about each request, such as the IP address, the requested page, the date and time, and the browser, for operation and security.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics)
Only with your consent, the website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use it: for example, which pages are visited and for how long, the approximate location (country and city), the type of device and browser, the website you came from, and, where these measurements are enabled in Google Analytics, interactions such as scrolling, file downloads and clicks on links to other websites.
- Google Analytics is loaded only after you choose Accept analytics. Until then, no data is sent to Google Analytics and no analytics cookies are set.
- After you accept, Google Analytics sets the cookies
_gaand_ga_JCJQYD5667to distinguish visitors and visits. By default they expire after two years. - Google signals, advertising features and ad personalisation are disabled; the analytics data is not used for advertising or remarketing.
- According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. The data is kept for the data retention period set in the website's Google Analytics account.
- The data is processed by Google, which may process it on servers outside your country, including in the United States. See Google's Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab) and how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab).
Your choice
Your choice is stored in your browser (local storage, not a cookie) so that you are not asked on every page; it is not sent to the website's server. You can change it at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you decline after accepting, Google Analytics stops collecting data immediately, also on the page you are viewing, and its cookies are removed from this website. Data collected before you declined is not deleted by this. You can also delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.
Content from other providers
Some files are delivered by other providers, which receive your IP address when your browser requests them: fonts from Google Fonts, style and script libraries from cdnjs.cloudflare.com and cdn.jsdelivr.net, and publication files and images from files.vplevris.net, which is hosted by Cloudflare. Links to publishers, DOI pages, Google Scholar and other external websites are covered by the privacy policies of those websites.
